The PuducherryCo-operative Book Society and PuducherryWriters' Book Society are jointly organising 17th National Book Fair 2013 in Puducherry from December 20 to 29 at VelSokkanathan Marriage Hall on VallalarSalai. There are more than 100 book publishers, distributors and sellers from across the country would participate in the fair. More than one lahk books will be displayed for 12 days. It would see the participation of eminent writers of international repute and they would interact with readers.

There would be seven types of literary competitions for the school and college students such as essay, music programme, instrumental music, singing, elocution, poetry, drawing and painting competitions. Besides offering 10 per cent discounts on all books, there would be special considerations for institutions purchasing books in large numbers. Around 1800 students have participated in the institutional level competitions and final selection will be held during the time of Book Fair. Winners will get gold medals and silver medals instituted by the philanthropists of Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.
    

While readers and institutions making purchase worth more than Rs.10,000 would get Book Raja and Book Rani Awards, those purchasing books for more than Rs.50,000 would be given Book Maharaja and Maharani Award. Children who make purchase for more than Rs.1,000 would get Book Lover Certificate.

The Puducherry Co-operative Book Society was started in 1996 to publish and distribute books, conduct book exhibitions, and other related activities. It is governed by the elected board of directors. Smt. M.K. Sayeekumary is the president, PulavarSeenu. Ramachandran is the Vice-President, and Shri. G. Murugan is the secretary. The Puducherry Writers Book Society is a newly formed voluntary non-profit book publishing and distributing society, cater to the needs of the writers in India. The primary aim of the society is to develop and promote publication of books, distribution, encouragement readers towards book reading and related activities. Justice David Annoussamy is the Patron, Dr. V. Muthu is the President and Prof. S. Srinivasan is the secretary of the society.

10% discount will be allowed on all books.
