Some suggestions for guest houses
Atithi Griha Guest House (about Rs 1300) close to all the activity, non A/C
Central Guest House, nice big rooms (about Rs 1500) close to all the activity, non A/C
Arka,nice big rooms (about Rs 1300) close to all the activity, non A/C
New Creation (about Rs1000) a bit far from all the activity, A/C

Fancy options are Gaia’s Garden, Mango Hill (pool and a mango tree in between the pool)
They are a bit far but still close to Auroville.

Luggage
Take a lot of T shirts/change (you will sweat a lot), after reaching class/milonga location, there are changing rooms everywhere. It is quite dusty on mud roads carry head scarf, goggles etc.

Those carrying big bags can’t ride on bike so have to take a cab and wait for their riders. Ola works.


Bike
You will need to hire motor bikes to travel once inside Auroville ( no exception) if you cant ride even a gearless bike then find someone who can, to stay with.
Auroville are not in good shape, but they charge only Rs 100. So you could take a chance by coming directly to Auroville, rentals are on Auroville main road.
To rent bikes you need to reach mission street in Pondicherry to rent bikes.

Once you reach Pondicherry (last stop near main bus stand) auto drivers will (mob you and) tell you stories like no bikes are available etc.
Just have the location on map and direct the auto to mission street. Its just 2km from the last stop but they'll charge anywhere between 100 to 200. If they are over charging, just walk away from them, there are enough auto guys. The busses reach a bit early you may have to wait 15-20 min for the bike shops to open.

Reasonable charge for bike is Rs 200 per day, negotiate.
There are other bike rentals nearby. Check the bike for working headlight and fuel gauge. No fuel stations inside Auroville, but some shops sell petrol.
