SAMBA de RODA Workshop with Luciana Camargo (BRAZIL)

What is SAMBA DE RODA -
The Samba de Roda combines music, dance and poetry. It is the root of the samba that everyone knows today as one of the most popular dances of Brazil.
The samba de roda is so named because the participants in a circle, while men play traditional instruments to percussion and singing, the women dance at a time in the middle of the roda.
It has been considered as an expression of freedom and identity of disadvantaged people and has become a means of emancipation.

About LUCIANA CAMARGO
Luciana was born in São Paulo, Brazil. She has been playing capoeira and dancing samba since her teenage years. She has performed and taught in various festivals, schools and events all over New Zealand, Fiji Islands and NYC and Brazil.
Luciana is the co founder of the Brazilian Divas (NZ) and is now living in Rio de Janeiro.
She is a student of Mestre Marrom and part of the cultural dance group Recônca Rio.
